Welcome Statement

Tyson House became a Reconciling In Christ (RIC) congregation in 2016! Check out our welcome statement below.

Tyson House a place of exploration and worship for all of God's children. This is not a commitment that we take lightly. Communion is open, respecting it as a deeply personal decision. The experiences of all of God's children, regardless and because of their gender, gender alignment, sexuality, ability, religious background, ethnicity, nationality, race, and native language(s) are cherished, respected, and affirmed.

What does it mean for someone to be welcome "regardless and because of" something?

By using the language of "regardless and because of", we hope to express the fact that all of God's people are welcome in our doors, nomatter their history or their future. It is "regardless" of many identities because none of these are qualifiers. It is "because of" these identities because we honor the fact that different life experiences can lead to different experiences of God and the Christian Faith.

Part of honoring the different kinds of life experiences that different identities lead to is to not try to guide someone from being different then the way God made them; so if your faith practices says you clap your hands during praise hymns, please clap your hands during our praise hymns. If your were created in the image of God as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, or otherwise queer person, we don't want to change you. We only want to create a space for you to feel the love that God has for you.

If you ever do not feel honored and cherished in our spaces because of a way that someone interacted with you, or because of how our worship service went, we would love to talk to you about it. Please do not be afraid to speak up at Tyson House.
